THE DISCOVER STAGE

Students begin the Discover phase by using divergent thinking strategies and applying ethical research methods to identify a design problem or opportunity. They gather insights about stakeholder perspectives and other influential factors using a range of research methods such as but not limited to interviews and surveys, audience or user personas, competitor analysis and secondary research.

DETAILS

You will need to show evidence of a wide range of discovery methodologies during the discovery stage, this will involve things such as Mind-maps, brainstorming, research of existing solutions, empathy mapping, stakeholder mapping, surveys and inspiration and insights from various different disciplines to create a broad understanding of the design problem.

BACKGROUND

Young designers often skip the discover stage due to preconceived ideas. However, it's crucial to resist these notions and embrace the discover stage, as it uncovers new perspectives and possibilities, enriching the design process and fostering more innovative and user-centered solutions.
