Mind Map Task

TASK

You are to produce a mind map which explores the various different components outlined in the brief, looking at how the audience, purpose, context, constraints and considerations may influence or build ideas for your chosen brand.

DETAILS

This task is to be produced using manual design methods and media. Students may use the media of Pens, Pencils, Markers, Coloured Pencils, and Paints (Such as watercolour or acrylic) to produce their mindmap, the material this will be produced on is paper. It is to be presented as an A3, with Landscape orientation

BACKGROUND

You are to select one of the three briefs listed below for your branding task.

Brief 1: Sportswear Branding

Brief 2: Fast Food Branding

Brief 3: Charity Branding

2. Develop Ideas

TASK

You are to generate at least eight different ideas for your branding design, within your annotations, you must ensure you discuss how you have used the design elements and design principles, as well as the Gestalt Principles to effectively address the purpose, context and audience for your chosen brief.

DETAILS

You are to present your ideas on a single, landscape A3 page. Designs much be produced using manual drawing methods, using the media of pencil, ink or marker. Annotations are to be hand written and must include both long form (sentence) and short form (Bullet points).

BACKGROUND

Development of ideas, otherwise known as ideation, is a way to rapidly produce a range of differing ideas to help the designer explore and then assess the various different possibilities in terms of solving the design problem.

3. Design Critique

TASK

You are to present your three best ideas to the class on a PowerPoint presentation, which will include a brief summary of your design problem and how the design ideas respond to the various components of the brief.

DETAILS

The PowerPoint presentation needs to be at least 3 slides in length, and must include a summary of the design problem and design brief, as well as the designs themselves. The PowerPoint is to be accompanied by a oral presentation.

Presenting ideas is a key facet of design, it is one of the most common and effective ways of garnering feedback from the various stakeholders within a project (The client, the audience, the end user and other team members, such as specialists.

4. Design Evaluation

TASK

You are to follow up your presentation with a brief survey, which will be answered by your classmates, this survey must seek to garner their feedback on which design they feel is the most effective response to the purpose, context and audience outlined in your brief.

DETAILS

The survey may be completed in Google Forms or Microsoft Forms, the survey data must be presented on an A3 Landscape page, with an accompanying summary, outlining the selected design and any potential modifications that will be made in the final design.

BACKGROUND

This form of survey is a formalised manner of collecting feedback from team members. Often this type of feedback is collected using more informal means, such as conversations with team members and rapid ideation during meetings.

5. Design Solution

TASK

You are to produce your finished design solution in Adobe Illustrator along with a rationale, which describes how the branding uses visual language to address the purpose, context and audience outlined in the brief.

DETAILS

The finished presentation must be produced on a single, portrait A3 page and must include a ~200 word rationale.

BACKGROUND

The design presentation is the final stage in the design process, the design presentation is the presentation of a the final design solution, whereby all aspects of the design have been refined to become fully resolved, responding in full to all aspects of the brief.
